Sunday School Cup Report

In the midst of all the excitement of Wales run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 there was another important football tournament being held in Llanrug on Tuesday July 5th – the Sunday School Cup.  This was the 6th edition since 2011.

6 teams from different Arfon Sunday schools came to compete for the right to be called Sunday School District Champions, in their midst teams from Noddfa, Salem, Bosra and Capel y Rhos (Llanrug).

Everyone played each other in a group of 6, with the top four reaching the semi-finals.  Before everyone played their last group game there was a time for a break and a message from Sion Morris, Coleg y Bala, about the fact that Jesus is the ultimate ‘one-man team’ as he beat sin and death for us so that we could be friends with God and have forgiveness.

Salem, Noddfa and both teams from Bosra Sunday schools reached the semi-finals, with Noddfa and Salem winning their respective ties against the two Bosra teams to set up an all Caernarfon final.

Salem went 2-0 up but Noddfa struck back to level the score 2-2.  Despite the heroic effort by Noddfa, Salem succeeded in regaining the lead and winning 4-2 in the end to claim the

trophy for the second year running.

Congratulations to them and to every team that took part so well.  Thanks to everyone who contributed to such a special evening.  After all it wasn’t the football that was really important, but the opportunity to witness to the children and parents about Jesus and we pray that they all had a taste of him.
